Things Tyler is allergic to

Blood panel results from the vet indicate Ty is allergic to:

  • poultry
  • corn
  • peanuts
  • oats
  • green peas
  • carrots
  • Apparently there are more things, but those are the ones she listed when she called and talked to The Cop. She’s sending the full report via mail.

What was Tyler eating when he was having problems? A diet based on chicken, lots of peanut butter for treats, and lots of carrots.

    Oops.

The good news is that he is off all of those things now, and is a happier, less itchy dog.

For the past two shala practices, I’ve pretty much just practiced with Muscle Man. This morning, we stood in the empty room and discussed Mysore attendance. I am really curious if there are regularly practicing Ashtangis in the Phoenix metro area. From the looks of Mysore these days, there are less than 6 of us. And when you count people who practice 5-6 days a week, I’m figuring maybe 3?

    Is that really possible?

    1. Congrats on the allergy solution! Hurrah!

And heck yes that’s possible…wow, 6 Mysorians? That would be positively RICH attendance in Indiana. And 3 who practice 5-6 a week? Unfreakin HEARD OF! Count those small numbers as fortune!

    2. Yeah, there are 3 of us in Montpellier, which is a decently-sized city. Me, my teacher, and another teacher at the school.

The French are not easily convinced that they ought to get up at 5am and do difficult, sweaty practice in a dark room before breakfast, and pay a monthly fee for the priviledge. Anyway, when it comes to yoga they LOVE the woo-woo that’s less ashtanga than other types of yoga. The favorite seems to be something called Sophro.

    3. (Glad your doggie is feeling better, too)

    4. Seems hard to believe, given the population of metro Phoenix. It’s much larger than the Columbus area, yet we have a fluctuating morning mysore population of 10-15 people who practice regularly.

I didn’t know that dogs could have allergies! Glad Tyler is better.

    5. hi Karen
how nice that you found out what bothers Tyler. that’s unfortunate about the low attendance at ashtanga mysore classes in your area. in Orlando in my early days it was 3 or 4, and 2 of us where not teachers.
      cheers,
      Arturo

    6. Dogs can have allergies and it’s hard to recruit people for Ashtanga practice. Those are our learnings for today. πŸ™‚

I told Muscle Man about the online Ashtanga community. He was amazed to hear about it. It was kind of funny. He was all excited to hear that there are videos of Sharath doing his backbending, and Kino MacGregor, and David Swenson… LOL!

Fact of the matter is, I wouldn’t be able to sustain myself without the cybershala.

    7. Okay, so is it fair to assume that among the Mysorian population, there are more teachers than non-teachers?!? That would be really funny.

When I practice with Sanskrit Scholar, The British Director and Muscle Man, I am outnumbered 3:1. Of course, since I am not trained, it means I can only GET adjustments and don’t have to GIVE them. [Evil greedy grin…]

    8. I heard a rumor that the shower in the cybershala is out of hot water, though.

      πŸ™‚

    9. LOL! Actually, there is no shower at the Phoenix shala. So the cybershala (located in my own home, where there IS a shower) is even better, now that I think about it.

The non-virtual shala is much warmer, though…

    10. Oh, I’m so interested in this Tyler allergies thing! The 40 lb. Monster Pug is always itchy. His primary diet consists of many of the things you list, except corn. Perhaps I should have him tested. Can they only do food allergies or can they also find out environmental allergies like maybe grass or tree pollen or whatever?

    11. Yes, the bloodwork included tests for grasses, trees, molds, etc. He had a few environmental sensitivities, but luckily they’re to things not common in our area.

    12. How can life be bearable without carrots? I’m sorry Tyler can’t have any more carrots but I’m glad to know he won’t be so itchy anymore.

Is there such a thing as a dirt allergy?

    13. LOL! If Tyler had a dirt allergy, I don’t think he’d still be alive.
